The deep sea is a unique habitat with enormous biodiversity. Despite this, states are currently negotiating rules on the extraction of mineral resources from the deep sea floor. Deep-sea mining will inevitably lead to species extinction and additional pollution of the already highly endangered oceans. Instead of more mining, we need a raw materials turnaround and strong rules to protect the oceans and all those who live from and with the sea.

This game allows pupils to determine the ecological footprint of examples from different continents in a vivid and participatory way. The connection between climate change and justice is conveyed in a concrete and non-preachy way.

If the group is larger, the role cards can be handed out several times to the participants. Alternative: Teams of two are each given a role card to think about together. Depending on the questions and role cards, the participants move forward in steps. In this way, some learn what it means to be "left behind"; others reach the "planetary boundaries" towards the end of the game. Playing time: 40 minutes.
