For over five decades, the development cooperation between the German government and the Catholic and Protestant churches has proven to be a win-win-situation benefiting the target groups of the development projects.
Partner organisations of the churches are often active in disaster relief and development cooperation areas in which state organisations cannot get involved. In nearly every region, churches have civil society partner organisations that work to promote human rights work at the grassroots level.
The funds from the German Federal Government and other public donors are channelled to the development projects of our partner organisations via Katholische Zentralstelle für Globale Entwicklung e. V. (the German Catholic Central Agency for Global Development, KZE). Since 1962, KZE – like the Protestant Association for Cooperation in Development (EZE) – has been a funding recipient and a point of contact for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). At the same time, KZE critically and constructively supports the work of the BMZ.
KZE is linked to Misereor by a cooperation agreement, ensuring that publicly funded projects align with the Misereor’s mission and conceptual guidelines.
This allows KZE to manage public funds entrusted to it through Misereor independently, free from external political conditions. Measures related to religious proclamation are not eligible for funding.
