Experience energy poverty

Life without safe and clean energy is still a daily - and above all nocturnal - reality for many millions of people in poor regions of the world.

The photo exhibition "On a small flame" makes the experience of energy poverty understandable in a striking way: it takes place in the dark. Visitors look at the extraordinary photographs by Eduardo Sorteras Jalil with torches. This immerses them in the everyday lives of people for whom charcoal is the only significant source of energy.

Among other things, the exhibition tells of the difference a solar system makes in a maternity ward or how a water turbine changes the life of a small town.

Lending

Loan period: min. 2 weeks, preferably longer
Costs: Transport and set-up costs approx. 500 EUR
Supervision: The exhibition must be located in a supervised room.
Spatial requirements: The exhibition is suitable for rooms from 5 x 8 metres with a ceiling height of at least 3.50 metres.

The exhibition space is a simple rectangular cube made of black opaque and fireproof blackout fabric, supported by a black aluminium frame: 3 metres wide, 5 metres long and 2.75 metres high. Photos and small information boards with texts and illustrations hang in the completely dark interior, which visitors view with torches. The exhibition is supported by a sound collage.

The exhibition can be set up by two to three people in 4-6 hours and Misereor will provide at least one experienced fitter for the set-up and dismantling. At least one other person (e.g. caretaker) must be available during the entire assembly process.

The truss system is assembled using bolts and clips. All you need is an aluminium hammer and a simple pair of pliers for dismantling. The two speakers are then positioned and wired. The fabric is made from one piece and is pulled over the frame.

The photos (with enclosed gloves) and text panels are placed on the fence elements according to the enclosed plan using clips, small hooks and magnets on the cross struts of the fence element. The fence elements are then suspended from the crossbars using black S-hooks.
