Education project "ÜberLebenLernen"

Some learn about life and for life. Others have to learn for their survival. We all have to learn for global survival.

The "ÜberLebenLernen" initiative aims to stimulate reflection, contribute facts, observations and ideas and broaden our view of how a different kind of sustainable learning can succeed. It is about education, movement and participation - here and worldwide.

AboutWATER as a means of life - how we (should) deal with it
AboutWATER as a means of life - how we (should) deal with it

Newly revised and expanded insights and alternative courses of action.

Newly revised and expanded insights and alternative courses of action.

Did you know that 496,000 microplastic fibres end up in the water during an average washing machine load of polyester clothing? Or that hot water freezes faster than cold water? Or what mineral water that is suitable for infant formula is all about? You can also find out in the new guide.

The topics range from the human right to water, climate change and marine littering to the environmental problems caused by cruise ships and conflicts over water. Examples of the global perspective include dying of thirst due to flooding in India and water management in the Sahel region. The consequences of lithium extraction in the Andes for our electric cars show the global interdependencies. There is an inspiring meditation and poetry on the 'element' of water as well as a contribution on Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment. In addition to a wealth of short facts about water, there is also plenty of practical information for everyday life: what fish can we still eat, what water can we still drink, how can we avoid plastic waste - and what can we do in concrete terms to protect water and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to drink clean water. Anyone interested will find lots of information, literature tips and links on water, and teachers will also find teaching materials.

39 short and often entertaining articles and illustrative graphics by the well-known climate and ocean researcher Mojib Latif and other external authors or those of the publishing organisations. The work aid is suitable as a stimulus for individuals, groups and initiatives as well as organisations and educational work - for reflection, for reviewing one's own actions, for political action.

The urbanisation of the world is progressing inexorably. By 2050, two thirds of the world's population will probably be living in cities.

But how can cities and rural areas remain liveable and beneficial for people and the environment? Whether Rüsselsheim or Bangkok, whether politics or the Pope, whether Christianity or Buddhism, whether Europe or Africa, whether impressions or sober numbers, whether childhood or old age in the city - in lyrical and factual texts, reports and essays, 35 short contributions provide observations, facts, ideas, suggestions for reflection and for discussions in groups, circles and courses. The colourful diversity of the cities is shown in photos and full-page artistic works, twelve of which are included as glossy cards, for example as conversation starters. The 27 authors come from the fields of education, development cooperation and science. The majority of the artists are participants in training courses organised by the publishers.
