Despite adaptation efforts, climate-related disasters are increasingly affecting vulnerable urban communities. Using case studies from Sao Paulo (Brazil), Nairobi (Kenya) and Jakarta (Indonesia), the research summary commissioned by Misereor and conducted by UNU-EHS and MCII analyses how vulnerability, exposure and climate-related hazards cause economic and non-economic loss and damage in urban informal settlements. It identifies strategies to avert, minimise and cope with loss and damage, and outlines how financing mechanisms should be designed to ensure adequate support for the most climate-vulnerable urban communities.

"Security forces: police and military reforms"
Promoting peace
Protecting human rights and facilitating peace

Briefing of the Human Rights Coordination Colombia

The police and military in Colombia are still responsible for numerous serious human rights violations - both inside and outside the armed conflict. Previous governments have avoided real reforms of the security sector.
Since 2021, the German government has been implementing two cooperation programmes with the police and military in Colombia. The projects must be strictly linked to binding human rights requirements. This publication describes the human rights situation on the ground and provides concrete recommendations for action for German and Colombian policymakers.

The subscribing organisations are members of the German Human Rights Coordination Colombia (MRKK).

The challenge of hunger 2024 | 25 - Global food poverty gap
Achieving food security
Fighting hunger
Promoting sustainable agriculture

No access! Why our global food system penalises people living in poverty. And how we can create good markets for good nutrition.

Food poverty is dramatically high despite a growing global economy. 2 out of 5 people cannot afford a healthy diet.

Hunger and malnutrition are primarily the result of poverty and inequality. The "Global Food Poverty Gap" shows how much money people around the world lack to afford the minimum level of a balanced diet and how great the injustice is. After all, healthy nutrition is not a luxury, but a human right. Together with its partner organisations, Misereor is committed to fighting hunger in the long term. This booklet presents examples of projects from Brazil, India and Uganda that strengthen smallholder families and improve access to food markets - for both producers and consumers.
