Sustainable on paper only
The ambivalent role of business in implementing the SDGs
More and more companies are publicly committing to implementing the 2030 Agenda and referring to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their sustainability reports. However, their corporate practice often looks different: Time and again, those affected complain about human rights violations and environmental pollution along the supply chain of transnational companies. The implementation process of the 2030 Agenda is seen by a growing number of economic actors as a welcome opportunity to counter this criticism, shape the discourse in their favour and influence political decisions accordingly.

Climate change, climate justice and climate conferences
With the USA cancelling the Paris Climate Agreement, the global community is facing the difficult challenge of meeting the agreed climate targets.
At the centre of this teaching material is the simulation of a climate conference with seven players (six countries and the UN Secretary-General) by the pupils. Together they are supposed to compensate for the failure of the USA, but each state has its own interests.
In preparation for the conference, the pupils use a variety of methods and well-founded material to deal with the topics of climate change, climate justice and climate conferences and then work out the roles of the actors as experts on their topic.
Due to the recent devastating weather events, political developments and the annual climate conferences (2017 in Germany), the climate debate is present in the media and students' awareness of the issue is increasing.
- Suitable for SEK II subjects geography, social sciences, religion and ethics

Committed Christians, including almost 50 bishops, signed the "Catacomb Pact for the Common Home" during the Amazon Synod on 20 October 2019. During the solemn service in the Domitilla Catacombs, they thus took up the "Catacomb Pact for a Poor and Servant Church", which was signed almost 54 years earlier in the same place by courageous and progressive bishops such as Dom Helder Câmara during the Second Vatican Council.

The encyclical "Laudato si", published in 2015, is seen as one of the great texts of the 21st century. This applies to humanity, to the earth planet and to the Church. Pope Francis called the Amazon Synod a "daughter" of Laudato si. The much-noticed final document, attached here in German translation, passes on the recommendations of the Synod to Pope Francis. He will respond in a separate letter by spring 2020.
