‘Ensuring food security worldwide’ is the second of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Misereor has long supported this goal and, together with partners from many countries in the Global South, is committed to promoting ecologically sustainable small-scale farming that enables a wide variety of food to be produced on small plots of land. The partner organisations are committed to strengthening local communities and their land rights, and to ensuring a fair distribution of water, seeds and food – including the Rural Pastoral Care Service of the Diocese of Pasto in Colombia, whose work is the focus of the 2024 Lenten campaign. This year’s Lent campaign invites us to also reflect on agricultural production in Germany and our own lifestyles.
