Surviving despite climate change
Climate change is jeopardising lives, harvests and livelihoods. Especially in the Global South. Here, droughts, floods and hurricanes are hitting people harder and more often.

Preserving livelihoods - worldwide
Misereor partner organisations help precisely where climate change has already had a massive impact on life. They offer help and protection and pave new paths to a secure future. Our local partner organisations know exactly what is needed. They recognise the need and can make the necessary changes.
Kenya: Facing drought
In northern Kenya, pastoralist communities move through vast grazing areas with their cattle and goats. Now climate change is destroying the herders' livelihoods. The soil is parched and up to 90 per cent of the livestock has died. The herders no longer have an income; people and animals are suffering from hunger and thirst.
Dried up land, made fertile
Misereor's partner IMPACT is helping nomadic families to preserve their traditional way of life despite climate change. They learn how to manage the pastures in such a way that they provide food for the animals in the long term. As water is becoming increasingly scarce, the project is also building wells to supply families and their herds with water.
The families reseed nutritious grasses and plant tree seedlings to make dried-up pastureland fertile again. To conserve the land, the cattle graze alternately on different pastures. In this way, each herd benefits from the already scarce rainfall. To generate new sources of income, IMPACT helps women and young people to set up small businesses.
India: Establishing healthcare provision
People in the Bihar region are experiencing climate change first-hand. Heatwaves are followed by cold spells, thunderstorms, droughts and floods threaten lives. In the event of a disaster, there is a lack of clean drinking water - a breeding ground for pathogens. Healthcare and first aid for people are lacking in many places.
Healthy and protected for the future
Misereor's partner GPSVS shows people how to prepare for extreme weather. Lightning conductors and life jackets are made from the simplest things. Women's groups have developed a warning system. First aid is taught in schools.
The communities are also revitalising their traditional healing methods. Women and girls are learning how herbs and medicinal plants can prevent illness. Kitchen gardens are being created in the villages. The families produce their own home remedies here and the fresh harvest ensures a healthy diet. The sale of surpluses brings them an additional income. The healthier diet improves their health and their resilience in the event of a disaster.
Climate change threatens people on all continents and in many different ways. Please help to limit the impact on people with your donation!
Sometimes we receive more donations for a project than was granted to the legal holder of the respective project. The projects listed here are examples of the work Misereor supports all over the world. If donations for a project exceed the amount granted to its legal holder, we allocate the surplus to other projects with a similar concept.
