On the ground – together with our partners
COP31 is drawing nearer. Key issues relating to tackling the climate crisis and ensuring a just transition are therefore back in the spotlight. Misereor is on the ground, supporting people and organisations that have been campaigning for climate protection and ambitious climate policy for decades.
Misereor reflects on the climate conference with three questions
- How can we achieve climate justice?
- Who pays for the consequences of the climate crisis?
- How can the phase-out of fossil fuels be made fair and sustainable?
Focus on Australia and the Pacific region
COP31 is taking place in Turkey. One notable feature, however, is the shared leadership: whilst Turkey is the host and holds the official presidency of the UN Climate Change Conference, Australia is leading the negotiations. This gives greater weight in the international process to the concerns of the Pacific states, which are suffering particularly severely from the consequences of the climate crisis.
