This year's Solibrot campaign begins tomorrow, Ash Wednesday. The Katholischer Deutscher Frauenbund e.V. (KDFB) is organising the campaign for the 13th time this year in cooperation with Misereor, the Catholic organisation for development cooperation. During Lent from 18 February to 4 April 2026, numerous KDFB branches and bakeries across Germany will be taking part in the solidarity campaign.

On the initiative of committed KDFB branches, bakeries will be offering solidarity bread during Lent. These loaves are sold with a benefit share; the proceeds go to Misereor projects that contribute to the long-term improvement of the living conditions of women, girls and families in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The projects supported aim to strengthen sustainable structures - for example in the areas of education, the fight against violence and the social participation of women. KDFB and Misereor are calling on people to consciously set an example for global solidarity and justice by buying a Solibrot.

"Peace begins in everyday life"

KDFB Vice President Annette Fischer and Misereor Managing Director Andreas Frick jointly emphasise the decisive role that women play with their commitment in the supported projects on the ground - often under difficult conditions. Especially in regions affected by poverty and conflict, their commitment is crucial for sustainable peace.

Fischer emphasises: "Peace begins in everyday life - where women take responsibility, moderate conflicts and strengthen communities. The women in the supported projects show how sustainable peace can grow when people are heard, empowered and involved. These experiences connect us across continents."

The Solibrot campaign is taking place as part of the Misereor Lent campaign, whose partner country in 2026 is Cameroon. Together with local project partners, Misereor is particularly committed this year to giving young people real opportunities for the future. Information on the Solibrot campaign, the projects involved and materials to support the campaign can be found at www.frauenbund.de and www.misereor.de/solibrot.

The Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB) is an independent women's organisation with 130,000 members nationwide. Since its foundation in 1903, it has campaigned for the equal participation of women in politics, society and the church.
