Misereor is calling on voters in Germany to cast their vote for humane policies in the European elections on 9 June. Under the motto "Vote! Human.", the Catholic organisation for development cooperation is appealing to the population to take part in the elections, to vote for democratic parties and thus to protect people and democracy and to put forces that despise democracy in their place.

"Democracy in Europe is facing major challenges. We can only find answers to the major upheavals and crises of our time, which are unsettling many people, together and democratically. It is therefore crucial that voters consciously cast their vote for the future of Europe and thus also for solidarity and justice worldwide," says Pirmin Spiegel, Managing Director of Misereor. "With our election appeal, we are committed to ensuring that humanity, human rights and human dignity remain at the centre of European politics."

Democratic solidarity for an open and just society

Misereor works in countries of the Global South with people who are committed to strengthening democracy and respecting human rights as a prerequisite for just societies and a stable life for all. The Catholic organisation is committed to an open, pluralistic and solidary society worldwide and stands by the side of all those who are treated with hostility because of their origin, skin colour, religion or sexual orientation. "That is why we cannot tolerate any parties or social forces in our own country that disregard human rights and want to destroy democracy. We must now take decisive action to counter the rise of these parties and protect our democracy. This also applies to any form of cooperation and rapprochement with the AfD and like-minded circles," warns the management of Misereor in a joint statement.

On the basis of Christian values

Misereor employees and supporters are committed to an open and diverse society, global solidarity and a better life for all people on the basis of Christian values. This includes the possibility of healthy nutrition, quality education and medical care, the protection of human rights and democratic participation, the promotion of gender equality and climate protection. The stakes are high: Vote humanely.
