Dr Andreas Frick will become the new Managing Director of Misereor from 1 July. He was appointed to the post today, Thursday, by the German Bishops' Conference and succeeds Pirmin Spiegel, who is leaving the Catholic organisation for development cooperation after twelve years.
Born in 1964, Frick has extensive management experience and has led comprehensive change processes, most recently as Vicar General of the Diocese of Aachen. In addition to years of study in Frankfurt and Rome (doctorate), his career includes a variety of areas of responsibility, including responsibility for the San Pedro Claver Colombia Foundation and the St Antonius Hospital in Eschweil, as well as many years as economist for the diocese of Aachen. Frick is familiar with the everyday lives of poor people in Africa, Latin America and Asia from his own experience and personal encounters in Colombia, India and Pakistan and from many years of project support with partners in Burkina Faso and Ghana.
Misereor is delighted to have gained a competent, committed board member in Frick. Together with the two board members Dr Bernd Bornhorst and Annette Ptassek and the 376 employees in Aachen, Berlin and Munich, Misereor works for justice and education, against hunger, disease, exclusion and human rights violations and their causes. Together with local partners, the organisation supports people regardless of their faith, culture or skin colour. Since Misereor was founded in 1958, it has supported over 114,000 projects in Africa and the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean.
On 27 June 2024, Dr Andreas Frick will be inaugurated in his new office and the long-standing Managing Director Pirmin Spiegel will be given a ceremonial farewell. Misereor will inform the media about further details of this event in good time.
