The two church development organisations Bread for the World and Misereor are disappointed about the budget cuts in the areas of development cooperation and humanitarian aid that the Bundestag's Budget Committee has now initiated.

Oliver Märtin, Director of International Programmes at Bread for the World: "Unfortunately, the Budget Committee has not corrected these fatal cuts. The government must now urgently rethink its plans for the coming years. Under no circumstances should the development budget be cut further. The many global challenges of our time can only be overcome with greater international cooperation."

Bernd Bornhorst, Managing Director of International Cooperation at Misereor: "The cuts that have now been decided will harm Germany in the medium term. We can only fight poverty, inequality and marginalisation in Germany and worldwide if we work together. To do this, however, politicians must - in their own interests - provide development cooperation with the necessary financial resources. Only then will Germany remain a reliable partner that can credibly stand up for peace and justice worldwide."
