Sri Lanka is a country ravaged by crises. Misereor’s partner LOAM (Lanka Organic Agriculture Movement) has been working for many years to transition the country’s agriculture and food systems towards more sustainable and resilient production methods – with agroforestry playing a key role in this.
Agroforestry combines the cultivation of trees, shrubs and agricultural crops on the same plot of land. This type of farming, which is already practised successfully in many parts of the world, offers significant advantages. It improves soil fertility, increases yields and creates resilient agricultural systems. Agroforestry not only offers ecological benefits such as protection against soil erosion and the enhancement of biodiversity; it also makes a significant contribution to increasing food security.
Our partner will give you a first-hand account of their experiences and the challenges they’ve faced, and explain how we’re using agroforestry to build a better future!
