Four questions about the campaign

The campaign can start wherever people pass by in a short space of time (e.g. in the morning in the entrance hall of the school, before the church service), but can also be incorporated into an event, group sessions or lessons, for example.

  • Drawing lots is neither fair nor just - because what is a big challenge for one person is totally easy for another. Unfortunately, climate change is also extremely unfair. It makes a huge difference whether I live in Mönchengladbach or in Mumbai. The people who suffer the most from the catastrophic effects of the climate crisis are those who have contributed the least: the poor population in the southern continents. You might get a small idea of this injustice by drawing lots.
  • The playfulness takes away the heaviness and doggedness of the topic - and yet, or precisely because of this, people get involved. Drawing lots is exciting and the challenge often awakens a "sporting" ambition to get involved in something new and to persevere for a few days.
  • Many of the responses or arguments that you will receive in response to the lots are a reflection of the political or social debate, for example:
    • What does this have to do with climate change?
    • But you have to start with completely different things!
    • But I can't do without that as well.
    • But that will be damn difficult.
  • But also:
    • But I can't do that right now!
    • I'm already doing that anyway.
    • I'm not doing that anyway.
    • Can I swap?
