For many girls, a hard, oppressive life awaits them from the moment they are born. They are often denied the chance to grow up unharmed, go to school or pursue a career. They experience their mothers’ fear of violence, homelessness and hunger. This inequality affects women and girls worldwide, particularly in poor regions.

Why our partners specifically support women and girls
Women and girls around the world are fighting against discrimination in education, healthcare, the workplace and politics. Despite the human right to equality, they often do not have the same opportunities as men.
In many cultures, women and girls are assigned a lower social status than men and boys. The consequences are clear: they are unable to earn their own income and remain dependent. They are also under-represented at a political level. Their needs and interests often go unheard. Women’s rights and equal access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities are crucial to ensuring they can live in safety and dignity.

Violence against women and girls is still rife. Furthermore, poverty here particularly affects women: women are excluded from well-paid jobs and tied down by unpaid work. Please help us to overcome this injustice and strengthen women’s rights worldwide!
Timor-Leste
Empowering women and achieving self-determination
Girls and women in Timor-Leste are often affected by oppression and social exclusion. Living a self-determined life is an enormous challenge when there is a lack of schooling and vocational training. Yet women seize opportunities when they arise. Please support initiatives such as these, which open up new prospects for women.

To ensure that your donation has an impact in the long term, Misereor uses a small proportion for important administration an related tasks. This way, we make sure that projects are selected carefully and implemented responsibly and that their effects are regularly monitored.
