Venezuela: Emergency aid for earthquake victims
The severe earthquakes have struck Venezuela at a time when the country is already in the midst of a serious crisis. Misereor is supporting emergency relief efforts on the ground by providing food, medicines and shelter.

In the wake of the severe earthquakes in Venezuela, thousands of families are struggling to survive. Houses have collapsed and entire communities have been destroyed. Many people have lost loved ones, and countless others are still missing. Fearing further collapses, families are spending their nights outdoors – often without adequate supplies of water, food or medical care.
Misereor’s partner organisation, Cáritas de Venezuela, is providing life-saving emergency aid on the ground. It is providing hundreds of families in the particularly hard-hit dioceses of La Guaira, Caracas and Miranda with essentials such as food, clean drinking water, hygiene items, medicines, tents, blankets and baby formula. Psychological support also helps survivors to come to terms with what they have been through.
The earthquake in Venezuela has struck people who were already in a very difficult social and economic situation. Even before the earthquake, millions of people were living below the poverty line. Around eight million people were dependent on humanitarian aid. This is precisely why long-term support for the population is now crucial to alleviating the suffering of those affected and enabling reconstruction.
