The 194 member states of the World Health Organisation (WHO) have set themselves the goal of agreeing on a global pandemic agreement by the World Health Assembly in May 2024. They want to use it to learn lessons from COVID-19 and be better equipped to prevent, prepare for and combat future pandemics.
At the same time, they are also negotiating the reform of the International Health Regulations (IHR), the WHO's only binding regulations under international law to date, to prevent and contain the cross-border spread of diseases.
